What does Tipalti do with personal data?
Keep accounts, issue invoices and manage bookkeeping. That is how Privacyboard describes a typical use of Tipalti, as a starting point you can edit.
The data usually involved: customer and supplier names, contact details, invoices, payment records and bank transaction details.
Is Tipalti a processor or a controller?
Tipalti processes payee data for the customer but, as a payments provider, also runs its own KYC/AML checks.
Privacyboard does not prefill a role for this vendor on purpose. You are asked to choose, since the answer changes what your privacy policy says and which agreement matters.
Where does Tipalti store personal data?
Tipalti usually keeps data in United States for every customer on its standard service, so there is normally nothing to choose. Privacyboard prefills this and you can change it if your setup differs.

How to find yours: Check the organization settings, or the provider’s data processing terms.
If the data is processed outside the European Economic Area, Articles 44 to 49 require a transfer mechanism, such as standard contractual clauses, an adequacy decision or the EU-US Data Privacy Framework. Your privacy policy should name it.
Which legal basis usually applies to Tipalti?
For the usual use of Tipalti, companies most often rely on performance of a contract and legal obligation (GDPR Article 6(1)). Invoices and accounts must be kept as accounting and tax law requires, and billing follows the contract.
This is a starting point, not legal advice: the basis belongs to your activity, and you confirm it in your register.
Does Tipalti have a data processing agreement?
Checked on 5 November 2026. Vendors change their pages, so check the date.
Yes. Tipalti publishes the text of its data processing agreement on its own website. Article 28 of the GDPR requires a written contract with every processor, so this is the document to read and keep.
What we noted when we opened the page: Data Processing Addendum, last modified 4 Aug 2026; Tipalti entity as named in the Agreement. Says production servers and databases are hosted on AWS in the US; relies on EU-US DPF, with 2021 SCCs, UK and Swiss addenda.
A page that exists does not mean you are covered. Whether the agreement applies to you depends on your plan and on what you accepted, so record the decision yourself in your vendor list.
Read the Tipalti agreementHow to declare Tipalti

What to check before relying on Tipalti
- Limit access to people who need the books, and review it when someone leaves.
- Agree how long invoices are kept: accounting law often sets a minimum.
- Check the region and any transfer outside the EEA.
- Record whether your accountant also has access, as a separate recipient.
