Cookie banner troubleshooting

Fix common cookie banner problems: it does not appear, trackers load before consent, the choice is not saved, Google tags ignore the choice, or the site check shows warnings.

#The banner does not appear

  • Reload in a private window. A saved choice hides the banner.
  • Check the banner is published, not only saved as a draft, and that your plan is Pro.
  • Check the script is on the page: view the page source and search for privacyboard.io/cmp/.
  • Check the domain is declared in your banner settings. Choices from undeclared domains are not recorded in your log.
  • If you use a cache plugin or a CDN, clear it. Optimisation plugins that delay scripts can load the banner late.
  • A content blocker in your browser may block the banner. Try without it.
  • Make sure the Privacyboard script is the first script in the head.
  • Run the site check to see which website loads and when.
  • If the tool is not in the built-in list, mark it yourself with type="text/plain" and a category.
  • If the tool is loaded by Cloudflare Zaraz or another server-side tool, see Cloudflare Zaraz.

#The choice is not saved

  • Browsers that block cookies cannot store it.
  • Check that the visitor opens your site on a declared domain.

#Google tags do not follow the choice

  • In Tag Manager, use the trigger Consent Initialization – All Pages for the banner tag.
  • Keep Google tags on Block or set the tags to wait for consent. See Google Consent Mode.

#The floating button shows when I do not want it

It is off by default. Switch off Cookie settings button in the banner settings and publish the change. Add a footer link instead. See Banner appearance.

#Changes do not appear yet

The banner script is cached for a few minutes. Wait and reload.

#Why does my banner not show on my website?

The most common causes are a script placed on a page that is not part of the declared domains, a typo in the banner identifier, or the page cache. Check the domain in the dashboard, then reload without cache.

A tracker added outside the banner, for example by a tag manager or a theme, is not blocked. Move it behind the matching category or load it only after consent.

#How long until a change appears on my site?

A few minutes, because the banner script is cached briefly.
